Yellowstone National Park became a national park in 1872 and encompasses 3,472 square miles and 2,221,766 acres of land. Yellowstone is located in Wyoming and partly in Montana and Idaho. The entire park is bigger than the state of Delaware. The park has close to 3 million visitors each year and the wintertime attendance is only around 140,000 people. Yellowstone was made a national park because of its many active geysers. The park also experiences close to two thousand small earthquakes per year
